Developing Your Best Skincare Routine

skincare, comfort zone, the tiny spa, selfcare, self love, skincare routine, new skincare routine, aha, bha, new year, new skincare routine

It’s a new year and many of us have new and/or old goals we’re working toward. One of your goals might be to curate a better skincare routine, but maybe you aren’t sure where to start or you just need to refresh your current routine a little. You may be asking yourself questions such as “should I exfoliate every night?” “when should I use a liquid exfoliant?” “should I be using retinol daily?” - if you have questions like these, you’re not alone. There is a lot of info out there, especially now with social media, which is great, but it can leave you feeling overwhelmed with decision paralysis. Maybe you purchased products you’ve seen on social media, but aren’t sure how they could fit into your skincare routine or if they’re even good for your skin. For example, typically, if you have sensitive skin, products with Vitamin A (Retinol) & Vitamin C could irritate your skin. Of course everyone’s skin is different, but if you’re using either of these with sensitive skin and are experiencing skin irritation, this could potentially be why - especially if they are over-used.

There are liquid exfoliants, masks, scrubs, peels, toners, serums, oils, creams, lasers, at-home facial tools, products that contain AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) and so much more - so how do you figure out what will work best for you and what might not be good for your skin? We’ve got some tips to help!

Best practices for learning more about your skin & skincare routine:

  • Keep it simple. Start out with a basic skincare regimen. Sometimes we get so excited about products we see others have results from and the next thing you know, we’ve got way too much and aren’t even sure where to begin. At The Tiny Spa, we recommend trying out products from the Comfort Zone Essential & Hydramemory lines such as the cleanser, scrub or peeling + hydramemory cream.

  • Do your research. Again, there is a lot of info out there, but everyone’s skin is different, so what works for someone else might not be the best for your skin. If you’re unsure if a product will work, check the ingredients and do a little research based on your skin type (ex: “what is a liquid bha exfoliant?” “what liquid exfoliant is best for sensitive skin?” “how many nights should I be using a retinol cream?”)

  • Talk with an esthetician. Who better to help you put together a skincare routine that works for your skin than an expert? Estheticians, especially ones you’ve worked with before, know you and your skin and can help you curate a skincare routine that serves you and your skin. Not only will your skin be thanking you, but your wallet will as well. No more spending money on products that aren’t working for your skin!

At The Tiny Spa, you can book a virtual consultation with an esthetician to help you with your skincare routine. You can talk through your concerns + ask questions about your skincare routine.
