Do You Need Peptide Serum in Your Skincare Routine?

You may have heard of and/or use Peptides in your current skincare routine, but do you know exactly what they are + if and how they work? Data actually shows us that peptides can in fact improve our skin and help prevent signs of aging as well as dark spots.

Peptides are a small string of amino acids, aka the building blocks that make up the proteins in our body, the proteins we’re of course referring to are collagen and elastin proteins. Although collagen and other peptides are made naturally in our bodies, overtime, the production decreases SO incorporating a peptide serum into your skincare routine can help increase collagen production and help our skin look and feel firmer.

When applied to the skin moisturizers and serums containing peptides can easily be absorbed by the skin topically. Once they are applied, they give the skin a plumper look.

There are different types of peptides, but the most common that you may see are:

Enzyme Inhibitor Peptides | Used to prevent the breakdown of collagen. They help combat chemicals related to the aging process. Soybean or rice peptides are indicators of this particular type of peptide.

Signal Peptides | The most common peptide in skincare products. These peptides stimulate collagen, helping to plump & firm the skin.

Carrier Peptides | The second most common peptide in skincare products. They help deliver magnesium & copper, which also help the skin increase elasticity. If a product has this type of protein in it, you’ll see the ingredient tripeptide-1 on the label.

The important thing about incorporating peptides into your skincare routine is to find one that works for you. You want one that is going to absorb into your skin well. Typically a night cream with peptides works very well and also a serum that can be used AM + PM will be helpful as well.

If you want to start using peptides or have questions about your current peptide products but aren’t sure where to start, you can schedule a skin consult with one of our estheticians or consult with your dermatologist.

To book at virtual consultation with an esthetician from The Tiny Spa, simply email hello@thetinyspa.com & we will get you scheduled. For just $35, you can learn so much about your skin and put together a skincare routine that works for you!

We hope this was helpful!
